According to humansociety.org prairie dogs are endangered because most of their native habitat being lost to farm land and urbanization. "Ongoing prairie dog extermination campaigns and disease have also contributed to plummeting prairie dog populations." This is a terrible thing because prairies rely completely on these prairie dogs and without them their entire ecosystem would fall apart or they will not thrive.
Why Are Prairie Dogs Important?
"Their colonies create islands of habitats that benefit approximately 150 other species" according to defenders.org. They are also food to other species like coyotes, eagles, badgers. Amazingly these prairie dogs can fertilize the soil so that new plants can grow and the land be more diverse.

On defenders.org you can, like the sea otters, adopt and right to the government and get them involved in making a change to help these animals. Donating to certain campaigns will benefit in helping them. Start to raise awareness yourself and to step up and do something.
